n the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, credit card issuers are pivoting away from less useful travel benefits to perks that can help customers while travel is on pause. A few months ago, Amex announced a slew of new benefits to assist cardholders during this difficult time — including credits for streaming and wireless services.

And not long after, Chase joined the pack when it announced increased points/miles earning on many of the best Chase credit cards for key spending categories during a quarantine. For example, between May 1 and June 30, you could earn 3x-5x points or miles on grocery purchases when spending with select Chase credit cards, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, up to $1,500 per month. That amounted to about a 10% return on your Sapphire Reserve grocery spending, based on our valuation of Chase points.

While that promotion is over, Chase just released targeted offers for United, Southwest, and IHG cardholders. So be sure to check your email or check Chase’s bonus landing page to see if you are targeted.

From Aug. 1 through Sept. 30, targeted Southwest, United and IHG cardholders can earn 5x to 7x points per dollar, depending on the card, on grocery and gas. On up to $1,500 in combined purchases per month. You must activate the offer.

I got an offer for 5x IHG points on my IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. And there is a data point of another cardholder receiving an offer to earn 7x United miles with their United Club℠ Infinite Card.
