Save up to 50% on Amazon purchases with a single Amex point

Signing up for credit cards through partner links earns us a commission. Terms apply to the offers listed on this page. Here’s our full advertising policy: How we make money.

Update: One or more card offers in this post are no longer available. Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

We estimate that Amex Membership Rewards points are worth an average of 1.8 cents each. So imagine if you could squeeze $60 out of just one point!

Amazon frequently publishes promotions that allow you to do just that. I’ll show you how to check for this offer to see if you’re eligible (many of these types of deals are targeted). If you’ve got one of the best Amex credit cards, you may be in luck. And if the promotion doesn’t appear for you this time, we’ll go over how to increase your chances for next time!

Save up to 50% on Amazon with one Amex Membership Rewards point

You can save between 20% and 50% on your next Amazon order with this deal. All you have to do is pay for your cart with a mix of cash and points — even paying with just a single point and the rest of the balance with cash will trigger this offer. Click here to see if you’re eligible and enroll in the promotion.

There are a few things to know before getting too excited:

  • The deal will end June 30, 2021, at 11:59 Pacific Time — or after 25,000 accounts have redeemed the offer (so hurry!)
  • These deals are targeted, with various savings opportunities
  • You can save a maximum of $60 (i.e. if you had the 50% discount you’d need to add $120 of items to your cart to get $60 off)
  • You can only use this once per account

But here’s how to take advantage of the promo:

If you’re not seeing any deal, or the site says you’re ineligible, make sure your Amex Membership Rewards-earning card is linked to your Amazon account. Also, if you’ve linked an Amex Membership rewards earning card within the past 24 hours (for instance, if you read this and then proceed to link your Amex card), you may not see it until the next day.

It’s also possible you’re just not targeted.

Finally, it’s important you apply just one Amex point to your order. Amazon will automatically apply enough points to cover the entire order, but using only one point will still trigger the discount. We say this because using Amazon’s shop with points feature is usually a terrible deal since Amex points are worth 0.7 cents when redeemed this way (88% less than our Amex points valuation).

How to maximize Amazon deals like this

One way to get the most from Amex Amazon offers is by stacking deals. Shopping portals and Amex Offers should not be affected by this promo. Also keep these things in mind for the current deal:

  • If you’ve got multiple Amex accounts, you should be able to cash-in on this promotion more than once
  • It’s reported that you’ll save on all your purchases, so long as you pay with at least one point, until your maximum savings threshold has been met
  • You don’t need Amazon prime or any special credentials
  • You’ll get the discount even when purchasing third-party gift cards through Amazon (i.e. not Amazon gift cards but to retailers like Starbucks, Delta, Whole Foods and Hotels.com)

Bottom line

Using just one Amex point to save up to $60 at Amazon is a heck of a deal. Deals like these are why points and miles are more valuable than many think, especially for those who aren’t frequent travelers.
