This was a huge perk for me. I am going to check out other offers before I have to renew. I suspect they are going to lose me-the annual fee is just too high.

After paying over $265 a day for a room that was not worth $100 a day and for that money that I have paid could have had the best suite on the coast have decided to cancel it, American Express its not worth it any more!

For a companion voucher you have to have spent $25.000 for the year. then you get a voucher code in your account but you have to buy a a fare and it can be any fare and the companion ticket pays only for the taxes.
Booking have to be done together and travel together.

1. Is Global Entry expense paid?
2. When is my renewal month – how do I get the companion certificate?

Tim Suttles post below says it all. This card is a scam. It is next to impossible to use the companion certificate for any reasonable set of flights you may want. Sure, you can use it to fly to some inexpensive fight to out of the way airports, but none of the good flights and no good non stop flights. I also tried to use miles and the companion certificate together, but after doing the math I found I had to use the same miles for 2 people and the companion certificate as I would if I just booked with miles alone. In other words, if I used miles the certificate added no advantage. I agree with Tim’s post below, this card is a waste of $195. It would be better to just use the Gold Miles $95 a year card, which we previously had, and enjoy free bags and at least some priority boarding. Sorry for the bad news, but hope you avoid the mistake we made of getting this Platinum card.

Anyone tried that before successfully? Or do I have to pay cash for my ticket in order to use the annual companion certificate?

Amex/Delta is sending targeted mailers for 70,000 miles after $2000 spend. Plus a $100 statement credit after you first purchase.

After an unbiased review I saw I have been able to use the companion ticket twice in 15 years…tried again this year and amazingly every option I wanted (not holidays) had no companion tickets available. I highly discourage anyone from getting this card and look at the Amex Platinum or other cards if you want travel benefits. Not sure any are worth it but now 100% know this one is NOT. Save yourself the $195 per year…it is not worth it…do the math. Again note, the companion ticket is a scam and rarely used…would love to see the stats on how many are issued versus used. Note I am a Million Miler too.

In the AMEX Delta Platinum application details (t) it reads: gift cards are excluded.
