Hey Debi, there are a couple bits of good news for you:

1- Marriott is extending the status you earned in 2019 an extra year, so instead of your Plat status expiring in February 2021 it will expire in February 2022.

2- You can shortcut your way to Platinum status or higher if you hold both a personal Marriott card and a small business Marriott card. Each will give you 15 elite night credits, so you’ll start every year with 30 elite nights. You’ll need to stay just 20 nights per year to earn Platinum, or 45 nights per year to earn Titanium.

Can you buy Marriott gift cards and use the gift cards to buy points?

In reply to Kevin. Hey Kevin, doesn't look like Barclays offers access to their merchant codes as easily as other banks like Citi and Amex. However, since buying Marriott gift cards triggers bonus points with travel credit cards, these should absolutely code as travel -- making the transaction eligible to be erased with Arrival miles.

In reply to Derrick. Hey Derrick! Whether you're using your Marriott card to buy a gift card or using it to pay for your stay at checkout, you'll earn the same amount of points per dollar. I've got to believe you'll still earn base points on your stay when you use a gift card (I've never used one), but I sent an inquiry to Marriott and I'll update you if they tell me that's not true.

What is the merchant code when you buy the Marriott gift cards? Do these code as travel when buying with a barclaycard?

I have a few Marriott stays coming this year. How does having Bonvoy credit cards (2) play in to this as far as maximizing points? Like better to pay AT hotel later with Bonvoy credit card, or better to buy gift cards ( 20% off ) and pay with those later. Does one scenario net more points?

Looks like they’re doing a lot of different targeted promotions. I was offered up to 27k bonus points with 9 stays – 9000 after three stays, another 9000 after six stays, and another 9000 after 9 stays. Wife got up to 22500 – 6000 after 2 stays, another 7500 after the third and another 9000 with the fourth stay. Think we’ll use her account!
